The test consists of an introspective self-report questionnaire that includes the psychological perspectives of an individual in order to determine the personal characteristics (Knobbs and Grayson 2012). For example, the questionnaire consists of questions that highlight how an individual perceives their surrounding people, situation, and environment. The personality test is developed based on Carl Jung theory that highlights four main psychological functions of individuals (Verhoeven and Daelemans 2014). The functions include thinking, sensation, feeling and intuition and according to the theory, one of the four psychological functions is dominant on an individual most of the time. This report emphasizes on analyzing the results generated after I conducted the MBTI 16 personality test on me. Therefore, based on the generated test results, I will evaluate my personality and psychological functions. Analysis of the Results Generated from MBTI 16 Personality Test Personality Type After taking the MBTI 16 Personality test, my personality type was determined to be Defender (ISFJ-T) (Refer to Appendix 1). According to the test, the psychological and characteristics of my personality includes introversion, sensing, feeling and judging that includes following characteristics. Figure 1: MBTI Personality Test (Source: Verhoeven and Daelemans 2014) Based on the four psychological functions generated from the test, my behavioral and psychological characteristics reflects quietly warm, factual, sympathetic, detailed, organized, dependable, thorough, systematic, realistic, conservative, caring, practical, stable and helpful. Discussing the Results The test result suggested an introvert nature for my personality. The percentage came as high as 63% in my ability and flexibility of interacting with my surrounding environment. As mentioned by Behaz and Djoudi (2012), the introvert characteristics emphasize on intrinsic feelings rather than considering extrinsic simulations. I agree with the results of being an introvert because, in reality, I do feel hesitant and shy in interacting with my surrounding people and environment readily. For example, I am generally hesitant in initiating conversation with people. This is because I am unsure how my surrounding people will take me when I approach them. Moreover, due to my introvert nature, it takes my time to mix with my surrounding people and the environment. For example, when I joined the university, it took me a considerable amount of time to socialize with my classmates. I could see that my classmates were happily interacting with each other whereas I was sitting in a corner and obse rving them. It is when a classmate approached me; I started socializing with her and the group. However, I also took the time to share a friendly bond and relationship with her initially. This is because of my sensitive and fearful nature. I am afraid of being hurt that has eventually developed my introvert nature. Secondly, between intuitive and observant trait, the result suggested an observant nature for me. As asserted by Sethuraman and Suresh (2014), the observant characteristic emphasizes on the actual things and world happening in the surrounding environment. I agree with the nature of the trait, as I enjoy experiencing, seeing, feeling and touching. Due to this nature, I find difficulty in considering possibilities and theories. As a result, evaluating the possibilities for future and exploring fantasy scenarios are not prominent traits of the observant (M Ayobi and Ustani 2014). Moreover, due to this behavioral trait, I proficiently deal with facts, concrete objects, and tools. I am unable to give sufficient and adequate effort when I am emphasizing on one thing at a time rather than multi tasking. Thirdly, the result generated a higher percentage of feeling 66% as my nature. This suggested that my ability to make decisions is highly influenced by my feelings. According to Zhang et al. (2012), an individuals decision influenced feelings highlights personality traits such as caring, conservative and helpful. My decision-making ability is highly influenced by my feelings. I always prioritize and consider the feelings of my surrounding people and myself before making any decisions. I am generally concerned about the impact of my decision on my surrounding people. This nature prohibits me to consider the practicality of the situation and hinders my thought process. I am so influenced by feelings while decision-making that I often lose my ability to think and judge the situation and the people. Due to this behavioral characteristic, I have taken wrong decisions. On the contrary, this nature has allowed me to help and care about others. Fourthly, 57% highlights a judging trait as my personality. The tactics scale determines how an individual approaches the available options and plan thereby, determining individual attitudes towards the certainty of life (Montequin et al. 2012). Due to this trait, I generally do not prefer keeping my options open. As a result, I come up with various contingency plans to proceed and deal with the challenges when they arise. Therefore, I prefer sticking to a plan rather than being influenced by the flow. I also prefer maintaining a checklist and generally put a cross when the things are done. Due to a judging trait, I have a strong ground ethnically and prioritize my duties. Lastly, 81% highlights a turbulent trait as my personality. As mentioned by Al-Dujaily, Kim and Ryu (2013), individuals with turbulent traits are sensitive to stress and self-conscious. Due to this trait, I experience a wide range of emotions very frequently that hampers the ability to make decisions and confidence. I always strive for improvement and tend to be a perfectionist. For example, due to this trait, I feel easily saturated and bored in a single thing. Conclusion In this report, it can be concluded that the MBTI 16 Personality Test generated my personality as Defender (ISFJ-T). According to the scales, my personality highlighted behavioral traits such an introvert, observant, feeling, judging and turbulent. The questionnaire of the test had questions emphasizing on various psychological and functional attributes and I was to relate to it completely. I agree with the fact being an introvert, as I feel hesitant and shy in socializing with my surrounding people and the environment easily. Due to my observant personality, I emphasize more on real things rather than considering my surrounding world. Only in the 1990s that the company was experiencing a high rate of its employees leaving the jobs and seeking alternatives in the rival firms and this led to the company doing a survey to find what the problems were and how the required changes could be implemented to ensure that everybody was comfortable. The review process included common assessments by the managers to ensure that there were no deviations to the required standards and also the system also has options for self assessment who then forwards the reports to the managers for them to do the evaluation. Thereafter, the manager and the employees meet to discuss the assessment and what needs to be done. The stock options awards are usually given only to those customers who seem to be long term assets to the company and this works to the best of the company as it tries to retain its best and most efficient employees. Motivation of the Employee in Microsoft Company Silistre (2007) when quoting McNamara says that, â€Å"the key to supporting the motivation of your employees is through understanding what motivates each of them† (Par 22). The relationship between the employer and the employee to Microsoft is a very important issue. The Microsoft Company has always ensured that the company goals are well understood through its strong culture that still goes on in the company. The employees are always aware from the first day they are employed in the company of what is required of them. A common saying goes that you cannot take a donkey to the river and force it to drink water. The donkey has to be thirsty in order to drink the water. The thirsty feeling motivates the donkey to drink water. Without the thirst there would be no motivation or the donkey to drink the water. For the case of Microsoft Company, motivation is providing a work environment in which everyone feels satisfied through on their own at the same time serving the organizational goals and objectives (Sil istre, 2007). The same thing can be described of motivation. In his motivation theory, Fredrick Herzberg stated that motivation involves hygiene factors which include the work and organization environment. The hygiene factors include the organization, policies and their administration, salary, status and job security among other factors. He explains that the factors may not lead to high levels of motivation though but when such qualities lack there is dissatisfaction among the employees. He explains the second factor which promotes this motivation theory involves actually what goes on in the organization and what the employees do in order to develop an inbuilt motivation with the work force. Achievement and recognition are among other factors that make the work force be intrinsically motivated. These two concepts as explained by Herzeberg, yields more motivation. Employees should be treated as best as possible with minimum or no dissatisfaction at all (Accel Team, 2010). Those who a re recruited to the company and the systems where they work in provide the necessary motivation as required by the workers. In his theory, the hierarchy of needs, Maslow (1943) explains that no matter how well individuals (in our case a company employees) are satisfied, they may still sometimes (if not a usual thing) develop some discontentment. That is unless the company ensures that the individual is doing what is best suited for him. He gives an example that people must be allowed to do what they are trained to do and doing it best. For instance allowing a man to be what best he can be. This is what many call self actualization. The hierarchy of needs as explained by Maslow increases as the basic needs are fulfilled, new needs will emerge and these needs are not that crucial but psychologically they are. The ever increasing needs is all what is meant. â€Å"This is what we mean by saying that the basic human needs are organized into a hierarchy of relative prepotency which domin ates human beings and when these too are satisfied newer ones will emerge†, (Marslow, 1943: 375). The Microsoft Company provides all these to its employees and the staff in general and the company lays its demands from the employees to be the very best they can ever be. Silistre quotes one of the employees as saying the â€Å"only way to achieve here is to push the envelope of what you can do. Every day try to do better. Work harder. Innovate more. People are focused 100% on performing their job as successfully as possible† (Par 25). Self actualization in the company can also be seen with the type of the employees the company hires. They are the brightest and the smartest among their peers thus for them to achieve self actualization there is a need for them to be pushed harder and be given the opportunity to achieve more than what ordinary employees can achieve. Employee Loyalty and Satisfaction The company has been implementing strategies aimed at empowering itsâ€℠¢ employees. For any organization to empower its employees there is always a need for a developed culture which allows this to happen. In the case of Microsoft, a change of culture as the survey indicated above was needed and it has brought about the success of the company in that every employee feels some ownership to the company as they are free to make innovative decisions and then forward to the management for approval if deemed successful or revisions are made if improvements are needed to make the idea work successfully. In a SWOT analysis done by Hafner and Hilbert (2001) the two describe one of the company strengths being attributed to the flexible workforce the company employs and the loyal and devoted workforce who in addition to a good pay also have chances of doing well by buying the company stocks, this works as a motivation towards working even harder. For the young employees to be at par with the older employees there has been continued activity of the older employees coaching the young employees and preparing them for what is needed of them. Satisfaction of doing any job in many companies Microsoft included depends on the complexity of the job, the value of doing the work and the physical effort that need to be invested in the job. Microsoft Company ensures that the more complex the job is the higher are the returns associated with the activity. Bill Gates as the manager and the co-founder of the Microsoft Company has always placed his employees’ way above where most other companies place them. The expectancy theory as indicated by Vroom state that the belief that one thing will lead to another is likely to bring motivation if there exists a relationship between the performance and the outcome. It is always seen as a way of satisfying a need. The expectancy theory also explains about the rewards which come together with effort (Armstrong, 2006). This theory is being applied at Microsoft as the company reward system has shown. Issuing of equities to the most valued employees creates a form of partnership in that even when the employee is doing his work his productivity also improves his current status in the organization as his shares improves on value as the company continues to gain profits. The company reward system is also based on two options: the technical path and the management path. This is a very good consideration due to the fact that as we move up the company ladder the management requires less technical skills compared to the management skills (Rosen, 2003; Strebel Lu, 2008). The company values technical skills due to its products nature. â€Å"In most organizations, employees with conceptual skills would be rewarded by moving up the corporate ladder, while those with technical skills would not advance. Microsoft, however, offers two advancement paths, allowing those with technical skills to advance as technical experts, just as those with conceptual skills advance as managers† (Silistre. 2010: par 30). With the just ending economic crisis, the company was not spared either and it has been working on how to reduce the expenses and increase its profitability. The economic crisis effect has also driven the fact that the existing customers pool need to be reserved and this has resulted in cancelled conferences and business meetings as the top brass in the company visit their customers. The company has also been urging its’ employees to put more effort in maintaining their customers by ensuring products are released on time and with the promised features (Bass, 2009). The promise comes after the company still reeling from the economic crunch and its’ plan to retrench about 5000 jobs in the year 2010 and more in the following years until it can be in a position to recover fully. This shows that despite the company success some issues still need to be checked to ensure that the company remains a major profit earner as well as a major employer (Johnston, 2009). Conc lusion Microsoft company success can be attributed to the effective human resource policies that the company applies. The way the company has modeled its HRM policies is an example that if businesses are run with both the vision of the employee and the employer being intertwined there is no doubt a company can succeed. Sometimes, LaPierre said, The only thing to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.† In this sentence, the writer has inserted the word sometimes, though the speaker did not utter it verbatim, into the sentence because the speaker intimated it in other words. Because it wasn’t actually spoken, however, it is placed outside the quotation marks. But the sentiment begins with sometimes, not the, so the quotation becomes a partial one and the is not capitalized: â€Å"Sometimes, LaPierre said, ‘the only thing to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.’† 2. Alfred North Whitehead wrote that The best education is to be found in gaining the utmost information from the simplest apparatus.† A similar rule applies to an attribution (â€Å"so and so said/wrote/agreed†) that leads into the quotation without intervening punctuation; the quotation becomes part of a framing sentence, and the first word of the original quotation is not capitalized: â€Å"Alfred North Whitehead wrote that ‘the best education is to be found in gaining the utmost information from the simplest apparatus.’† 3. We knew, Jones says, that the company would eventually become a major competitor, but, without a relationship, we thought we were in danger of not achieving ubiquity.† In this sentence, the writer interjects the attribution into the midst of the quotation, which is standard procedure. However, the attribution should be delayed until a break between two clauses: â€Å"‘We knew that the company would eventually become a major competitor,’ Jones says, ‘but, without a relationship, we thought we were in danger of not achieving ubiquity.’† 4. Schools may be the last place,' Smith said, where the government is funding us to gather together into public forums to have conversations. We have got to protect that.† This sentence, like the previous example, suffers from premature attribution. Because there is no natural break in the sentence, the attribution should be inserted between the two sentences: â€Å"‘Schools may be the last place where the government is funding us to gather together into public forums to have conversations,’ Smith said. ‘We have got to protect that.’† 5. â€Å"In many ways, it’s like the cowboys against the Indians. But the cowboys are fully backed by the state, he said of the current situation. In this case, the attribution is delayed too long. In a quotation of two or more sentences, as in the previous example, place it between the first and second sentences: â€Å"‘In many ways, it’s like the cowboys against the Indians,’ he said of the current situation. ‘But the cowboys are fully backed by the state.’† (Note, too, how this arrangement strengthens the sentence because it ends with a serious punchline rather than a dry attribution.) With rising income of the people belonging to the middle class in China, their exposure to the international market is increasing and they are becoming more accustomed to the western culture. This develops taste among the population for luxury products, such as high quality refined wine. This provides positive incentive for the wine manufacturers to increase their operations in China. According to comments by experts, in years to come, the Chinese â€Å"middle class† would become one of the greatest stakeholders for the wine firms. With evolution of the Chinese economy the society is also advancing. A greater proportion of the population is entering the middle class (Okonkwo, 2007). They are having high average earning and are influenced by the western culture to a greater extent. These people are becoming loyal customers of wine. Definition of a Savage Essay In â€Å"Remarks Concerning the Savages of North America†, Benjamin Franklin opens by saying â€Å"Savages we call them, because their manners differ from ours, which we think the perfection of civility; they think the same of theirs† (Franklin, 2008, p. 226). When Franklin wrote this, he had no idea that our society would continue to complicate the differences between cultures to the extent they exist still today. Many of the colonists attempted to convert Native Americans to Christianity but failed because they could not accept another culture as being equal to their own. They saw the natives as an inferior group of people that must be saved and taught to live the same as the white man. The narrow minded views of these early settlers with all of their so called proper ways and education caused them to be the savages. Our modern day society is driven by wants versus needs. Many people feel a sense of entitlement to things whether they have earned them or not. Franklin describes the Indians as hunters and warriors, living off the land and taking only what they needed. They learned from each other. They listened to each other and gave someone speaking the full attention deserved. â€Å"Having few artificial wants, they have abundance of leisure for improvement by conversation† (Franklin, 2008, p. 226). The Indians did not possess the materialistic nature of the white man. They welcomed a stranger into their community, fed and clothed him, offered him a place to sleep and expected nothing in return but fellowship. The colonists would not have offered the same hospitality to an Indian that appeared as a stranger at their door. In trying to convert the Indians to Christianity, the colonists explained their church services as meeting â€Å"to hear and learn good things† (Franklin, 2008, p. 229) but upon hearing the Indians explain something from their beliefs, the colonists passed it off as â€Å"mere fable, fiction, and falsehood† (Franklin, 2008, p. 228). Franklin (2008) wrote about an event that occurred at the Treaty of Lancast er in 1744. The Indians were offered a chance to send six of their young men to college to receive an education. Their response was they preferred to teach the Indian values and customs because it would ensure their young men would become valuable members of their own culture. The Indians did reciprocate by offering to take twelve young white men, educate them and â€Å"make men of them† (p. 227). The colonists clearly believed their way to be better because they felt their society to be more civilized. In comparison of the British House of Commons and an Indian council, Franklin (2008) discussed how the English have to speak very quickly to get their words out before being interrupted and that often a call to order was issued because of the arguments that frequently occurred. In contrast, the Indian council was held with order and great respect for others when it was their turn to speak (p. 227). The Indian culture was strange to the colonists and they perceived anything contradictory from their way of life to be uncivilized. This close minded view was apparent in how quickly the colonists dismissed the Indians religious beliefs. They felt the white man’s education was superior to those of the Indian ways. By not being accepting, the colonists showed great bias toward the Indians they called savages. This behavior toward the Indians ultimately resulted in destroying much of their culture. Many Indians were attacked and killed and the survivors were forced to leave their lands. The savages were not the Indians but the colonists that came to America and destroyed the Native American culture. Our society still struggles with the point Franklin was trying to convey. Organizational Culture of Google Essay

Introduction Sergey Brin and Larry Page who were PhD Students at Stanford University met in 1996 and they came up with the idea of starting a search engine that they named BackRub. However on 14th September 1997, the two students renamed this search engine to Google and in the year 1998 this organization was launched officially. The term Google was derived from the word googol which refers to digit one (1) followed by hundredth (100) zeros. Studies show that, Google receives millions of users on daily basis and it is estimated that this organization is worth billions of US dollars. In addition to this, Google has proven to be among the leading organizations with diverse cultures and has been named as the best performing organization that ingrates Culture and Diversity in Decision Making process. Some of the Awards that have been given to Google include: Hispanic Bar Association of Orange County, Organizational Excellence Award, and Diversity in IT Award, UK IT Industry Award, and National Association of the Deaf Accessibility Award among many other Awards. Google’s Culture The bottom line of Google’s success across the globe stems from the culture that has been developed by the key stakeholders in the organization. It is indeed quite evident that, Google has grown considerably since 1998 when the company was officially launched and currently, its employees are more than 200, and come from all parts of the globe. I will examine Google’s culture of ethical standards and behavior as well as observable organizational policies in the Company. Although Googlers share common goals and visions for the company, Google hail from all walks of life and speak dozens of languages, reflecting the global audience that Google serve. And when not at work, Googlers pursue interests ranging from cycling to beekeeping, from frisbee to foxtrot. The culture of ethical standards and behavior in Google Typically, employees of Google Company are smart people and coming from various parts of the globe, they speak different languages and their cultures vary. As a matter of fact, these employees are expected to serve all customers without any favor or discrimination, thus â€Å"Don’t be evil† is key to Google’s stakeholders, members of staff and all employees working for Google Company. This statement is very vital to Google Company and it is expected that, everyone working in the Company as well as other members of staff should respect one another and above all honor those laws and guiding principles that have been established in the organization especially when it comes to the entire process of decision making (Weber, 2008). In addition to that, clients’ information is vital in the Company and the company expects every employee and other members of staff to ensure that customers’ information and data is given adequate protection from unauthorized access. The company expects that, all its employees maintain high levels of integrity at all time and any employee or staff member who is found to have jeopardized his work by exposing clients information and data to unauthorized access is held liable for all the damages caused will be forced to pay for the ultimate price of his negligence of duty (Schermerhorn, 2012). If there was ever a decline in the web searching service, Google will have to adapt to the new demand. This is why it important for them to strive to hire the smartest and the brightest within the field. Google has the employees to adapt to a decline in the web searching service, the employees that they currently have and will be able to hire will be able to adapt to any other business that Google wants to become during this decline.(Bulygo, 2013) Furthermore, protection of Google’s assets is very important to all employees and staff members of this company. It is quite evident that, Google is rich in intellectual data, communication facilities, employee data, clients’ information, and Company equipment among other assets from in all parts of the globe (Flamholtz & Randle, 2011). The company expects all employees, and other people who access these assets to protect them from any  access by other people with ill motives. This goes hand in hand with the working environment of Google Company and studies shows that, Google ensures that all employees work in a violence free environment and this has enabled employees of Google Company to be very productive at all time. This goes hand in hand with the issue of drug and substance abuse and in this respect; the company does not allow her employees, staff members to use or to promote drug and substance abuse. How I determined that Google has shown the culture of ethical standards and behavior Google Company has adopted the culture of ethical standards and behavior. To Frost, this culture is entrepreneurial, dynamic, and innovative and above all it makes employees to be creative in their places of work (Frost, 2009). It is quite evident that, employees and managers of Google Company embrace risk-taking and innovation, thus they work hard in order to ensure that Google Company is on the leading edge as compared to other organizations or companies from all over the world. Indeed, employees and members of staff of Google Company are unified by their commitment towards implementing what they have or what they know. In addition to that, Google Company aims at leading other companies or organizations in the industry, thus to achieve this, it encourages freedom and individual initiative among her employees and staff members. Factors that caused Google to embody the culture of ethical standards and When Google was officially launched in 1998 as a search engine many people took advantage of various types of information that were being sold by the company. As the company grew and spread all over the world cases of misuse of the available data and information were reported from various parts of the globe. This threatened Google’s performance in the industry and the company came up with various codes of ethics and standards that were meant to guide staff members and users of Google’s information. Secondly, Google being the leading and the best performing organization all over the world needed come up with the culture of ethical standards and behavior. The main reason behind this is that for any organization or company to be successful then all its employees and members of staff should be guided by well established ethics (Schein, 2010). Type of leader that suits Google Company In my opinion, I believe that the ideal leader for this company is the one who has the ability to cultivate Google’s presence continuously. In addition to this, the leader should be customized to the type of business in order for him to deliver the impeccable customer service demanded customers and also to ensure that the company produces amazing results. This individual should lead by example and lead all employees towards the attainment of the company`s mission and vision. He should be approachable, open minded and very knowledgeable. Conclusion In an event of a decline in the demand of goods and services of Google Company, it will be a prudent for the company to adjust its culture to match the trend. In my view, I believe Google Company has been adjusting its culture in a number of ways in to make the most of prevailing conditions. It is quite evident that all employees and stakeholders of Google Company are committed to service delivery and one of the adjustments to be made by the Company is to create fun times between employees and clients. This will allow employees of the company to share their amazing experiences and services with their clients and this will increase the demand of goods and services of the company by these clients or customers. Dissociative Identity Disorder Dissociative Identity Disorder, or DID, is defined as: â€Å"The result of a marvelously creative defense mechanism that a young child uses to cope with extremely overwhelming trauma† (Hawkins, 2003, p. 3). Ross describes DID in this way: â€Å"In its childhood onset forms, the disorder is an effective strategy for coping with a traumatic environment: It becomes dysfunctional because environmental circumstances have changed by adulthood† (1997, p, 62). What types of traumatic environments are we talking about here? Often children who form DID are involved in some sort of abuse. These types of abuses can be physical, sexual and even ritual. (Ross, 1997, p 59) However, DID is not as simple as it seems. There are some who believe that it is created by therapists. Paul R. McHugh writes: MPD like hystero-epilepsy, is created by therapists. This formerly rare and disputed diagnosis became popular after the appearance of several best-selling books and movies. It is often based on the crudest form of suggestion. This is a staggering number, for a truly remarkable psychological condition. In spite of these statistics these same people believed DID should be a proposed diagnosis, because of skepticism. In true cases of DID new identities are formed to enable the child to be sheltered from the reality of abuse. This diagnosis of DID is considered to be the most severe type of DID by Ross.
